MANAGING YOUR EMOTIONS THROUGHOUT FAILURE - By Annu Biswas

MANAGING YOUR EMOTIONS THROUGHOUT FAILURE, Psychology, Emotions, Failure, Control Emotions

We all have set certain goals in our lives and we want to achieve them since they are the key to having a meaningful and happy life. While trying to reach these aims, all of us meet with hurdles that present difficulties in letting us achieve them. Sometimes, these difficulties are so big to tackle that even after struggling; eventually we fail in that particular objective. For example, some of us may end up detained in the present standard, while we dream of choosing the desired stream in higher secondary! This is quite a big setback since we have failed at the first attempt towards our aim!

Being humans we feel emotional pain, and know that after putting effort we have experienced failure, it is absolutely natural to feel and express negative emotions. Feelings of guilt and shame accompany not putting in enough effort. Now, what do we do? Are we going to sit and keep mourning for the loss as some choose to do? Are our lives and dreams really worth one loss so as not to give them a second try?

Unlike other living creatures, humans possess and practice the capability to evaluate their own actions. So feeling guilty for not putting in enough effort signifies that we are aware of where we made mistakes. But then, we let our emotions overtake this capability and keep lamenting for the loss experienced, when in fact knowing our mistakes can help us rectify them.

Fighting emotions isn’t easy. To bring the mind over mood requires a lot of concentration as the feelings keep coming back. But when emotions take over us, one failure leads to a sequence of failures as we become astray. The only focus for our goal can keep us on track. Remember, only prince Arjuna was chosen by Guru Dronacharya to be the world’s best archer, as it was only him who focussed on the eye of the wooden bird.
