Gujia is a sweet deep fried dumpling, native to the Indian sub-contitnent, made with Suji and fried in Ghee. It is specially consumed during Teej, Holi and Chhat in India.
Here is the recipe I'm sharing with you.
Ingredients
After making arrangement for all the ingredients like this,
you can proceed with the following cooking process:
Knead soft dough of Maida with Baking Soda, Ghee or refined oil and keep aside. Keep it rest.
In a large sized container and bowl, mix all the ingredients thoroughly to prepare the stuffing.
Get all these arranged:-
- Maida Dough
- Stuffing
- Belan-Chaki
- Gujia Frame/Maker Mould
According to your preference keep Ghee or some maida in a small bowl aside.
Divide the dough into even balls of same size. Take one ball and flatten it on the powdered chakki surface with the rolling pin(Belan). Try to get as circular a shape as possible.
Now put some ghee on the surface of gujia mould and put over it the flattened dough. Put enough stuffing that fits your moulds capacity and press firmly to seal the Gujia. Withdraw the extra Maida left out of the mould. With Slight hands open the mould and carefully take out the Gujia so formed.
Fill a frying pan no more than half full with flavorless refined oil. Preheat the oil to the cooking temperature. Now drop the prepared uncooked gujias one by one for them to sizzle until they turn brown in color. Remove the freshly deep fried Gujia safely from the pan and place on a plate.
Your festive sweet Bengali dish is prepared now for serving. Enjoy!!
